Back in the day, long ago, Dan and I did tent camp. We moved up through the ranks of travel trailer, small motor home, large motor home, back to tent camping. We've gone full circle. We use to sit in the motor home while full timing and watch the tent campers, the weekend folks, and we observed how much fun those folks were having. We wanted to see just how much fun it can be.
We marched off to the local "all you could ever need store" and bought a tent....not a tiny thing, but one that is 8 X 14 with over 6 foot height inside. It is quite roomy. We got the queen air mattress, something we didn't have in our first days of tent camping. The one thing I noticed about tent camping versus our days in the motor home, we stayed outside except for sleeping. We also have a screen room that I named the kitchen, we didn't cook in it at first but we got brave the last camping trip and fired up the coleman stove inside the screen room. That baby worked like a charm. The tent is named the house.
One real adventure on the first camping trip was during the second night. A critter, thinking raccoon here, relieved us of most of the groceries in the cooler. That animal consumed more than we did in the four days of camping. Dan fixed that situation and added a latch to that cooler. We bought a larger cooler and he attached bungee cords to it, no critters from that point on.
One thing we didn't consider was the heat of summer. On our last trip that reality set in, along with the gnats. We were suppose to stay until last Friday but I checked the weather and saw where Thursday's heat index was predicted to be 110 degrees. We packed up and came home early. Our biggest concern was our sweet furkid, KD. She was having a hard time in the heat and we simply will not do that to her. Now, we wait for a break in the heat until our next adventure. We hope our future will include a new travel trailer but we are in no hurry. It is so much fun to walk out to the waters edge and throw that fishing hook in the water and see what happens.
While we wait we are back home. Dan is tending the yard and working his magic with flowers, bushes, fix it jobs, all the joys of being back in the sticks and bricks dwelling.
One of our roses.

In our travels we saw a flower pot built like this and Dan decided to build his own. When the flowers are fully grown the white tube will not be visible...at least that is the plan.

Our first trip with the new tent, the house, and the screen room, the kitchen. This is the site where the critter paid us a visit. This trip was to Lake Catherine State Park.

There was a full moon during the first camping trip, made the stay even better.

The view of the lake from our site.

Going full circle...who knew!! If someone had told me a year ago I'd be tent camping I would have called them crazy. I will always love the cool brisk mornings by the lake, fresh cappuccino in hand, birds singing, fish hitting the surface of the water, the quiet, the peace...no I'm not crazy after all. This full circle thing.....come on cooler weather....I want to go camping.

Karon - love that you are camping again - it do get in the blood!
Oh, my friend, this is where we differ. My only experience with "camping" is from my Girl Scout days and it's not filled with happy memories. Give me 4 walls, a restaurant and a working bathroom and I'm happy to travel. LOL Glad that you're enjoying it, though, and soooo glad that KD won't have to endure the heat and gnats, too. Have fun!
My goodness girl - it's been a while since I've checked up on you. Full circle indeed! You are one brave soul. Love that you are still enjoying the life.
My tent camping - before Bob - was at Quetico Superior out of Ely, MN

Learned the meaning of 'portage' as we carried our canoe and supplies. Stayed for the maximum time limit 10 days 3 summers in a row.
We are enjoying being at Jojoba now. Loved that PVC pipe flower pot.
