The Journey Just Gets Better and Better

When we came home we knew we were entering a new chapter in our lives. It continues to be a journey of discovery as we learn more about us, our likes, dislikes, the things that aren't important and those things which we are devoted to.

The house, as I've said before, required a lot of work to fix things that needed attention. We were very blessed in finding a very good construction carpenter, all round fix it fellow. He was very thorough in his work and we are happy with the results. That part of the repair is done and a very heavy load lifted.

Upon coming home we knew we would return to the church we attended before we left town to pursue our RVing fulltime lifestyle. Returning to church was like going home. It has been the most wonderful experience and we continue to make new friends as we get more and more involved in the church. Shortly after going back to church Dan told our friend Ann, who heads up the kitchen and all that goes on there, if she ever needed his help he was available. A week ago Ann approached Dan and asked if he was serious about helping. He was. This week he and I both showed up early on Wednesday and I'm very proud to say Dan cooked the Wednesday night church supper. It was delicious. He was in his element and having fun. He went after that like he had been doing that forever. He really does know his way around the kitchen...I've told folks that and I think they think I'm just trying to make him look good. He doesn't need my help in that department.....his work speaks for him. He had many compliments on the meal and I have a feeling he will be in the kitchen more and more. I hope so....it really was good.

Our church also has a food pantry and one Saturday a month the pantry is open to provide food for those in need. We volunteered to help there and learned there is a lot of work in that production. We went in on the day before the pantry was to open and sacked many bags to be delivered that same day to folks who don't have transportation to come get the food. We also sacked many bags for pick up on Saturday. Some folks who come in choose to go through the pantry and pick out what they need. It was a fast paced two days and the most wonderful blessing to be a part of that program. We will continue to help. We carried bags to the cars for folks and got a chance to visit with some. The kitchen also serves coffee, soft drinks and sweet treats while folks are shopping. It was fast paced, a lot of work and a whole lot of fun. We are looking forward to next month.

Last Sunday toward the end of the service, the pastor announced we would not have Sunday night service. Now I know the weather man was calling for a winter storm but I tend to not put much stock into weather predictions. Then here was the pastor cancelling the service. OK, I'm thinking maybe there's something to this weather report. I'll say there was something....within an hour of getting home from church the snow started. We had very cold temps and some six to eight inches of snow. Yes, yes, yes....we will give the weather man this one...he was right this time. Dan and I stayed in for the most part, just wandered out on the porch to check on how deep it was. I'm very happy to report the streets are all clear now and we still have snow in the yard.

With winter hitting, the temps dropping, being involved more and more at church, I have also completed my training to be a Weight Watcher leader. My friend Janice and I made a trip to the corporate office so I could pick up a new calculator and while there we, OK, Janice announced we need a meeting in Sheridan. Gena's reply was,"find the people and a place to meet". We came away from there with signature sheets and information on how to get a meeting started. I have signature sheets in four churches and the rec center. I've also located a great meeting place and now I'm waiting for the signatures. I keep studying my Weight Watcher papers while I'm waiting. I figure I better know what I'm talking about....can't hurt.

Our very latest news is that Dan has a new toy. It has been six years since he had his own wheels. He has always preferred Chevrolet's and the color of choice is black. Here it is..isn't it a beauty. Dan did take KD and me for a ride.....I haven't dared ask to drive it.......not yet!!!!

The journey we are on, this new chapter really does get better and more interesting with each new day.

For all our RVing friends, safe travels....our prayers are with you.

Nice truck! Congratulations! Snow, not as much as you experienced last winter in Colorado, but still an adventure!

Love and hugs (miss you bunches!)

So happy to see another update and to hear that you and Dan are doing well. Your snow pictures look quite familiar to us! We've got some really cold weather on the way so we'll be staying in and cooking this weekend, I'm sure.

Doors close and other doors open in our lives. Sounds like yours has opened and you have jumped in with both feet, giving of yourselves. Congratulations. Enjoy. Love your posts.

I just came across your blog today. We are also from AR and started our fulltime adventure in December 2009. Hubby retired from the AF and we returned to AR to be near our ailing parents. Our parents passed and our 3 kids moved on -- dgt in NC, sons in Dallas and OK. So, we decided to sell out & hit the road to see kids/grandkids more often. We do miss our church family. Just thot I'd say hi since we are Arkies too:)
