The Journey Begins

With our dogs boarded that Saturday we decided to go ahead and get an early start on our trip to the Texas coast. I learned that I forgot how to pack since I've carried my stuff with me for so long. After checking several times to be sure we weren't forgetting anything we left home, drove about five hours, stopped for the night north of Houston. We knew we were in for a long drive, the computer map program said it's a ten hour drive, well, it's more like eleven. We decided we wanted to break that up and we were glad we did. We rarely eat out, again because we carried our food with us, but that night after getting a room we found a Barnhill restaurant. We ate in a Barnhill in Mobile, AL and remembered the food being good. It's like a self serve buffet type service. After supper we returned to the room and turned in early.

Sunday we drove six hours to get to Aransas Pass. I had reserved a rental truck to be picked up Monday early in Rockport. About thirty miles out of Fulton Dan got a phone call from another rental place telling us they had our truck, not the 24' we asked for but a 26', no extra charge and they would give us more miles and additional travel days. Well, OK now. That would certainly fit the plan. We picked up the truck, checked in our motel, rested about an hour, then took Dan's Mom to supper.

Monday morning we were at our storage unit by 6:30 a.m. I hired a couple of fellows to help pack the truck and they arrived about 7:30 a.m. While the guys loaded and Dan supervised I went to get gas for the car and two cappuccino's. I took the coffee and went to visit with Mom for some pink time (girl talk). I arrived back at the storage facility around 9 a.m. and by 9:15 the truck was loaded. We drove back to the rental place where they hooked up a car dolly to tow the car.

All went well until just south of Atlanta, TX when we were pulled over. No ticket or warning, the policeman just wanted us to know that one of the tail lights on the dolly wasn't working. Turns out there wasn't even a light bulb in it. Dan was not happy. We called the hotline, waited an hour and a half, no one came, we drove on. We arrived home by midnight, tired, but very happy to be home.

We had agreed we would not unload in a hurry. That idea lasted about as long as it took to say it. Tuesday morning I played navigator to help Dan back the truck to our porch. We got it lined up for the ramp and I left by car to go get the furkids from boarding. I stopped by our friends, Bill and Janice's house and asked Janice to ride with me. We had a great visit and picked up the puppies. Lots of doggy kisses and tail wagging later, we arrived home.

We worked non stop for about thirteen days straight. The place is looking good. We are home, now we are picking out new paint colors for the interior, making plans, yes we back in our groove. Our new puppy Whitney is thriving. Our latest news with him is that he is not a Schnauzer after all. He is a Jack Russell Terrier, which explains his antics, his comical way, his loving nature. I've been around many Schnauzers and I knew I'd never seen one behave the way he does. KD is just happy to have her space back.

This past Sunday we attended our home church for the first time in years and there were hugs all around. We have missed them.

Yesterday I bought a new vac and I'm anxious to give it a spin....just see how that baby works. Why would I be excited about a vac, I've never had a brand new vac, see.....such a simple thing.

Life is good and the journey has begun.
