Never Say Never

You can be moving along in your life and in the matter of minutes everything can change. That can be sad and again it can be a happy thing. Such is our lives recently. We chose the fulltime RVing life because of our love for the outdoors, nature, seeing new places and meeting new and as we learned some incredible people. Meeting the people, making friends we hold close to our hearts is or was the icing on the cake.

After several conversations about ending the fulltime lifestyle.....we did just that. On August 18, 2010 after almost six years on the road we came home. We surprised some folks maybe even ourselves just a bit. I've wanted to come home for a while but I learned that Dan and I need to be on the same page. He loved fulltime RVing and hated giving it up. Over the past month several times he said he was so tired and then the simple sentence "I just want to go home". I prefer to not go into the nitty gritty of "why". I also prefer to look forward, not backward. A very wise person once told me "you can't move forward if you keep looking back". So, I'm looking forward.

The motor home is parked in our yard, has been unloaded and for now will sit right there. We have agreed we will not ever full time again. The plan is to sell the motor home at some point. We do enjoy a cool crisp morning by the lake that looks like glass, campfire going, coffee in hand, one of those mornings when you need some light sleeves to take the chill off....yes love that stuff. Always will, but not as a full timer. Arkansas has some beautiful lakes, I once read this state has some 10,000 miles of shoreline so there is a lake nearby in any direction. Who knows, might just get up early one morning and go fishing...we do know some great fishing spots.

We are at peace, very happy with our decision. We are reinventing our home. From here on we are on a journey of discovery, learning about our likes and dislikes, having the time to savor the moment without rushing, without worry about what day we have to move on, without worry about the rig and the surprise of the day.

The day we pulled into the yard it was raining so hard. Our plan was to hit the ground running but we had to wait for the rain to quit. That meant we could just take the time and walk through the house, catch our breath, take a soda pop and sit on our porch and watch the rain. The second day here we had a thunderstorm, again we went to the porch, just sat and watched and listened. It was awesome.

To add to the excitement on Monday before we came home Wednesday we added a new puppy to our family. He is Whitney, a Schnauzer, a rescue like his big sister KD.

Meet Whitney, a white ball of fire and energy, so full of life, bringing so much laughter to this house.

KD and Whitney catching their breath, she plays with him, then gets enough and sends him packing. Yes, she is the alpha dog.

A couple of days before leaving one of our last campsites I saw this deer who had discovered the feed sack....talk about a happy deer. There is a baby on the other side of the mama.

We are busy with choosing paint colors for the interior of the house, planning when to make the car trip to the Texas coast to reclaim our stored stuff and bring it home by means of a rented truck, planning how to arrange the interior of the house. I plan to have a guest room when all is said and done. I've already learned some things I missed...my bathtub, my dishwasher, my real refrigerator with all its room and that wonderful, long, porch. Dan has his office, I have an area designed for my crafts, we have an outside enclosed shop that is heated and cooled for year round fun, it doubles as a stained glass studio. Dan has told me that I don't even want to think about going out there right now...well...I did peak into the door...he was right....I'm staying out of there until he works his magic.

Never say never.....that is a long time and things happen, life changes and that's OK, progress is about change. You just never really know so it's important to keep the options open.

Life is very good and it is so good to be home!!!!!

What a surprise! I'm glad we're not the only ones that decided to end our fulltiming days. It was fun while it lasted and if not for immigration we would probably still be on the road but I doubt if it would have been for much longer.

You didn't really say where your house is but I'm thinking Arkansas or Texas.

Enjoy getting your sticks & bricks legs again and welcome to the new doggie!

WOw - I am surprised. I guess I should have been on the WW thread more. I did not realize you still had a house back in Arkansas.

As you say, life changes. You have many great memories of your time on the road. I wish we had met up at some point. We came so close so many times.

Take care!

Everything happens for a reason...even I sometimes feel the tug for a real home base. LOL!

You can always pick up a little Class C and go on vacations from time to time.

Just be healthy and happy!

HUGS!!!

Karon, I tried to leave a comment earlier but the wi-fi died just then so not sure it went through. If so, feel free to delete this one. LOL

I just wanted to say that I am very happy for you that you have made a choice and decision that is just right for you and Dan. I look forward to reading your blog on your Journey of Discovery.

Also, Whitney is beautiful! Please give him and KD a scritch for me. :)

Hugs, Barb

I'm happy for your decision. I know I would miss the permanence of our home, be it ever so humble...

Enjoy your "new life" and keep blogging about those lakes!

Have not had the oppourtunity to see you and Dan again, after the first Dreamer rally, but we had a great time, didn't we? We were never able to make that decision to go full time, but like some have told us.. "it is not for everyone". We too, love our sticks and bricks . so we just travel now and again. Have a great life.. mabe we can meet up again ...

I'm glad you at least went on the road and tried it out. You'll have many memories and can close your eyes to visualize it. Congrats on the new addition, they're a blast to watch. Good luck in your future life. Now we have someplace to visit when we're in the area.

Karon, You have an interesting blog. Thanks for sharing it on your FB post.

I hope you and Dan enjoy your new home without wheels. It sounds like you had a great adventure but are ready for a different one. Good luck with that!

Of course, my dear friend, I am happy that you are happy with your decision and wish you and Dan every bit of happiness in your new "Discovery Journey". But I can't help shed a little bitty tear that I won't be seeing that rolling Discovery pull in next to us at some campground along the way...guess we'll just have to come park the Castle near you one of these days, lol!

Many hugs!

Ellie and Jim,

You can bring that Castle and park it next to our house anytime and for as long as you want, we will provide the water hookup. I do believe you have your own power plant...lol. We do have to walk the Schnauzer brigade at some point.

Miss you and love you!!! Karon

Karon,

Best of luck to you and Dan as you enter this new stage of your life. It warms my heart to hear you say you are happy with this decision. That is the most important thing.

I hope you will be very happy back in your home. It sounds like you will. And that's a handsome new doggie. Enjoy!

Take care.

Congratulations on your new phase of life. We have only been full timing 18 months and have no thought yet to ending it. For now there is nothing else we would rather do.

But yours may be the first RV f/t blog that I have read where the decision was a positive choice and one that you are both happy with. Sounds like you have no regrets. Congratulations again...

Just catching up on blogs since we've been in Asia. Surprised about your decision but certainly understand 6 years is enough. :-) Not sure how much longer we will continue. Heading to FL to see what frozen damage we have from freeze in GA we didn't anticipate while we were gone. Always something it seems.
