Cleaning Day and Taking Cover

So much for fishing. How about just trying to hang onto the hat?

Yesterday started off great. I got up with every intention of cleaning house. I accomplished my mission. I did the routine cleaning and laundry, then, while I was in cleaning mode I decided to steam clean my carpet. I got that done. I joke that my carpet is the color of dirt. The paperwork that came with the motorhome says the carpet is tortise color. That doesn't really tell you anything does it? My carpet is a grayish green and it is on the darker side. In the big picture it doesn't matter what color it is......I knew it was time to clean it. And I did.

After all the cleaning I was feeling real good about what I had accomplished. I even gave KD a bath. She might as well be clean too.

After a short break I noticed the sky getting darker. It looked like it would rain. I went on about my business. All of a sudden it sounded like gunshots hitting the top of the motorhome or small explosions. I looked out and it was starting to hail. Now, DH does not get worked up about things like hail storms. He is very matter of fact about it. I was the one going bonkers. I asked him if he thought we should bring the slides in. No, he thought they would be fine. Uh huh!!!!!! Sometimes I can be rather single minded and stubborn. I marched, no make that ran to get my motorhome keys and turned the ignition to accessory. I don't know if all RV's operate this way but this one does. I brought all the slides in and not a minute too soon. The hail cut loose. We had some quarter and nickle size. It would let up and then start again. All I could do was sit in the front seat and watch. That is Mother Nature on a bad hair day. Sometimes we forget just how small we are in this universe and how much control we don't have. There were folks here taking off for the bath houses, some even left the park, for where, I don't know. We stayed with the ship. Some folks had broken sky lights. In another part of town there was a lot of wind damage and broken windshields. Oh, and there was a tornado that touched down a few miles south of us. When I heard that I was counting my blessings.

I've been in hail storms before but I didn't have a nice digital camera in hand. This time I did. I even recorded the sound of the hail on the roof, using my cell phone. Talk about eerie. I've said it takes little to entertain me. At least I was busy taking pictures and not fretting over the storm. I knew there was nothing I could do, except pray and I was doing that, too.

This is the TV screen as the storm was in motion.

The hail was coming down, bouncing everywhere.

Part of our site flooded. Water was up to the edge of the crossties.

The storm was moving to the south. This was the view to the north, just a little bit of blue sky.

Today is beautiful. The calm after the storm!

Last night was the first time I've ever been in this motorhome while it was hailing. I hope it was the last.

Oh, the excitement of fulltiming.......never boring!!!!!!!

Well, I guess I'd better be counting my blessings too. We have the two driver-side slides in because of the wind here, but no hail. They're predicting the possibility of a snow flake, but that's about it. Glad you're safe and sound!

Love you,
Ellie

Karon, if I might say... be careful if you pull your slides in again during a hail storm. You want to be sure that there are no large pieces of ice on the roof that could cause damage to the coach when the slide comes in. Just a note of caution. Even if you have the awning covers the hail can get under them and you would not be aware of it till too late.

I would have had the slides in when I saw the dark clouds. I wasn't ready to leave Cedar Ridge, but I am glad I missed that action. Glad you didn't get any damage.

Thank heaven you are all safe!!! We lived through a bad Thunderstorm once when trees came down all around us!

It's good you didn't lose any skylights. Was your car damaged by the hail? We have hail damage on our car from a storm last summer!

Hugs!!

I remember the last year we lived in Colorado Springs...the spring hail storm caused everyone within several miles to have to get new roofs & houses repainted. It destroyed every green thing in our yard and tore through all the webbing in our lawn furniture. Believe me, I RESPECT hail storms! Glad you guys are okay...
